Hello fellow forum members! I picked up my blue 2013 today. I took her for a quick 8 mile run before I loaded her on the trailer for the trip home from Romney Cycles in WV. I get her safely home and when I start to take her loose my phone rings. I answer it and I'm talking to my buddy as I loosen one strap. I now have her on the kick stand. While wrangling with the other strap and talking on the phone all of a sudden she's falling. I literally throw my phone to my cement driveway and kinda catch her. Well my pretty Nokia Windows phone aint so pretty now. And the bike... Well I was freaking out. I lift her up and I'm looking over the side plastics and I don't see any damage. Then I look at the silver shield on the muffler and it's cracked and all scratched up. Ughhhhh... I have moved bikes all over the US and I've never done this stupid crap before. Oh well. So I plan to upgrade the exhaust anyhow but it's gonna be awhile. Does someone near the 25405 zip have one of these shields they want to get rid of. It just pisses me off every time I look at her! BTW she now has 43 miles and I love it! It's just soo sad to me that I messed her up already!

I thought that kind of stuff only happened to me! Maybe you can fix the crack with JB Weld and paint over it.

No help with the shield, but I gotta say that mine went over sometime in the first 1,000 miles. Luckily the only dealer accessory I bought was the engine guards. The way I look at it, get the first scratch outta the way and relax. Then go get some mud on it.

If you put racks on it, you'll probably have to take the exhaust shield off anyway.

I think I have one, I'll check my garage tomorrow. I removed mine when I installed the Jesse Luggage set up. If I still have it, it's yours. Can you post a picture of yours so I'm sure we're talking about the same thing?

The other way to look at it is you now have the dreaded first scratch out of the way so you can stop worrying about when it will happen. Go ride the bike and enjoy it! You know it would happen eventually; none of us gets away with it for long.

If it's just scuffed and scratched I'd sand it down and paint it flat black.

I bought my 2012 VStrom about 3weeks ago she only had 227 miles. The previous owner dropped it on a trailer and stretched the muffler guard. I sanded the scratch out and sprayed it with black plastic coat.

Hey Shaggy!

Don't feel too bad, man. If you ride long enough, you WILL do something to make you look like a dumbass. Trust me on that!

I vote with the crowd that told you now that you have the first scratch out of the way, don' sweat it.... go out and RIDE that thang! :)

Cheers!

don't worry about it too much... the first scratch is the hardest... the rest just adds character.

Here is a pic of her. You can see the scuffs on the silver heat shield on the muffler.

did it fall on top of your Nokia? because I can see no other reason for the phone damage....

Personally, I don't think I'd bother spending any money on that unless I was trying to sell it, which you're not. Chalk it up to experience and ride on!

You might be able to plastic weld the crack closed use a little bondo like filler and Repaint....

Or for $60bucks buy a new cover.

Or leave it as a reminder to put the phone down when doing important stuff that needs your full attention.

I scratched the heck out of the black plastic headlight surround about a week after I owned my bike. On the left side so I see it all the time.
Reminds me to be mindful when I'm parking the bike and not have it lean into the dirt bike's license plate, which has a edge like a razor.
