I'm leaving Austin tomorrow for a couple of weeks. My plan is to spend a week or more in Eastern KY and Western VA. Are there any must-rides? I know some good roads, but I'm looking for ones I haven't ridden before.

On my return I'm going to ride the Natchez Trace in its entirety. Are there any side stops I should consider? I'm less familiar with Mississippi than the surrounding states.

Thanks.

The Trace passes west of Jackson, MS where you will be about 20 miles east of Vicksburg National Battlefield Park if you're
interested in Civil War history. The National Park Service does an excellent job with driving tour, demonstrations (learned to
fire a smoothbore canon), films, etc.

Lots of ride reports on the forum, including routes in that area recommended during the http://www.stromtrooper.com/events/70738-v-strom-get-together-east-x-17-20-may-2012-a.html

Motorcycle Roads | Motorcycle Roads and Rides | MotorcycleRoads.com is my favorite site for finding new roads. Click on a state and wait a bit...the rides are slow to load on the state map and there are lots of them in Kentucky and West Virginia.

I know you are on the road, but if you have internet access PM me or send an e-mail to [email protected]. I live in the area where you'll be. Maybe we can meet for a beer or something.
Thanks, I just got to check this. I'm in Asheville, NC headed to Nashville tonight via Smokey Mountain NP. These mountains sure are a lot of fun.

Cheers.

The natchez is an OK ride but nothing like the Smokies. I have ridden in 3 times now returning from Florida. The best part of the Natchez is riding the old route that is mostly gravel. It passes back and forth under the new road. Watch out for loose gravel in the turns. Also, the park service is very anal about the speed limit and at dawn/dusk every blind, deaf, homicidal deer in the area will be out eating grass along the roadside and thinking about crossing it for no particular reason other than to make you soil your riding gear.
