I noticed last year that my side stand switch was not working. I could start the bike and drop it into gear with the side stand down. Not a big deal since i always check that it is up before i depart, but thought i better figure out what the issue is.

I pulled my front gear cover off and discovered the wire coming from the switch had been pinched by the clutch slave cylinder. Bare wire was visible. I cut out a section of that and spliced in new wire, soldered it, then shrink wrapped it, and finally electrical tape over the whole thing.

I put the key in and was raising and lowering the side stand, but no indication on the console. Isn't there supposed to be a yellow light when side stand is down? Maybe that wasn't the only issue there.

Is there a fuse for the side stand?

The strange thing is, the bike starts fine still. I didn't try putting it in gear though.

There is no indication for the side stand being down when the engine is in neutral. If it is down while in gear, the engine just won't run or crank, the fuel pump won't run and a CHEC will be displayed.

It is working exactly as you described. So my repair fixed it. Thanks for the info. :)

It is kind of relief since I had attempted to locate the connector for that wire at the top and wasn't able to get my hands anywhere near it. It seemed to disappear under the harness to the left side under the seat. Replacing that switch would have been a PITA.

Ensure you route the wires so that the problem doesn't happen again. Having a hard time visualizing how it happened the first time. :confused:

It is very easy to pinch the side stand wire as he describes, I did a similar thing to my 05 the first time I cleaned behind the slave cylinder.

How is that side stand switch wire routed? My used bike was bypassed and there were peices of that wire in the sprocket housing. I got a new one and routed it along the frame, trying to avoid the buzz saw. I have never been happy with how i secured it. Anybody have a picture?

Try these. Note that there is a wiring clamp that I have at some time forgotten to put back through the front lower countershaft cover bolt. Perhaps that is when you are meant to realise that the wire is pinched.
