Can someone tell me if the pelican side case set they sell on twisted throttle will mount on any of the givi/sw racks. If so, why would you buy SW Motech for ?309 instead of the givi tubular for $189? The brackets sold with the Pelican side case kit are quick release so why pay for rapid release side case carriers (givi PLR3101)

I can tell you with certainty that the pelican cases/mounts that Caribou Cases sells fit the SW-Motech racks that came with my 2012 Adventure. I believe that TT is selling a very similar mount, so it shouldn't be a problem with the Motech racks either.

I'm guessing part of the additional cost of the Motech racks is the quick release mounts for the rack. I didn't care for the quick release mechanisms, so I've bolted the racks on to my bike and rarely/never take them off.

A couple of years ago I bought the "deluxe" Pelican cases from TT ... "deluxe" means that I paid a bunch more to get lid stays and case locks. As it turned out, when it rained, water leaked through the case locks. TT explained to me that water was leaking through the key hole and into the case. I had been and continue to be a pretty loyal TT customer but was a little put off by the fact that they seemed to know that the locks would leak but continued to charge extra for that feature. TT did accept the returned cases/racks with no further issues. I moved on to Givi cases.

The current TT page on the deluxe Pelican cases say they include "water-proof case locks" but I would call them and make sure the part and/or design actually changed. Everything else on the cases was real nice including the TT mounting system. If you get the standard set you won't get a built-in lock but the cases do allow for a small padlock to be used that is outside the gasket (no leak possibilities).

I use Pelican's on my 2005 Wee for nine years. The current owner is still enjoying them.

I mounted them directly to Givi removable racks (i.e., bolted). I figured that if I wanted to remove the cases I could simply remove the racks. We used CeeBailey inner bags made especially for the Pelican 1550s.

The Givi removable racks have a simple cam lock removal system that allows the racks to come off in 3 minutes or less.

Nine years went by after mounting the Pelicans before I removed them. That was to show the prospective new owner that they could be removed. That was the first and last time.

Bottom line, you don't need to spend extra money for fancy removable side Pelican side cases.

I have used similar Seahorse cases on the standard Givi rack on my 06. Happy Trail sells a set of mounting pucks that adapt any flat sided case to tubular racks like the Givi. Seahorse sells locking cases for a LOT less than Pelicans.

On my 13 Glee, I am going with the Givi PL 3101 rack ($180), Seahorse 720 (left) / 710 (right) cases ($130), and the HT Pucks ($80) for a total of just under $400 for the entire system. I use reusable grocery bags for case liners. Mostly, I am just throwing gloves, water bottles, and jacket liners in, so I have no issue with side loader cases.
