I was where you are now... wanting one, watching craigslist/ebay/cycletrader, etc. They came up for sale very rarely, and they did they were always snatched up quickly, or the seller wanted crazy money for it. (Everyone in MD seems to want tip-top dollar for used bikes.)
After several months, I finally got sick of that and started calling dealers looking for a leftover. 4 months ago I found my two-year leftover red '06 at a shop up in PA. I paid $5400 OTD for it, which is what the used '06s were going for here in MD. So that was cool.
I've been loving it. This has to be the easiest-to-ride, most versitile, practical, fun bike ever. I kinda wish I had gotten an '07 (slightly better mpg, ABS), but I did save about $1700 on it, which was nice.
