Shinkos big ride quality improvement over Kenda big blocks.

Had just about 3k on the Kenda big blocks that came with the bike. I purchased Shinko 705s from Cycle gear and had them mount and balance them for me.Wow much quieter then the big blocks…I did like the looks of the big blocks and off road capabilities but enjoy the smoother ride.✌

80/20 street biased tire runs smoother and quieter than a 50/50 big block knobby? It was also discovered today that ice is cold :)

Been running the 705’s for years. Like them. The bike isn’t enough of a dirt bike for the big blocks imo.

Now, we are all different but honestly, those big knobby tires on a Vstrom (or any similar) bike seem more like a "style" thing than a practical thing. Its like the Jeep or 4WD trucks where the posers put those monster off road tires on them but never really make use of them. All show, no go.
Now, on my pure off road machines that didn't know what pavement was, different story.

Certainly will be quieter than the Kendra Big Blocks. Riding buddy has those on his 650 BMW and they are noisy, as are most all such patterns, including the Scout 60's. Mine really howl at 35-40 mph.
Had several Shinko tires on previous Concours and ST1300. Never been dissatisfied yet.
My 650 will see as much dirt (not even gravel) logging roads, gravel forestry roads and loose/deep gravel county roads as much as pavement. Debated most of last season on replacing the rear Scout 60 with either the Shinko 705 or 805 series. So far very happy with the 805. Quieter than the Scout and better grip on/off pavement. Waiting for the snow to dry up the dirt woods roads and find some loose gravel to further the trial period.
Choice makes perfect sense to me.
(Yes, I know the tire is mounted backwards)

Yes the TCK80 take off’s were noisy too but handled much better on pavement than I would’ve guessed.

I used Shinko 705 tires on my 2014 Vstrom1000, and thought they were great. Only problem was the rear tire didn't last more than about 4k miles. The front tire was good for about 10k miles. The Shinkos are relatively inexpensive, but when you add mounting costs and longevity, the overall cost is not quite that cheap. I currently run Dunlop Trailmax tires on my '21 Tiger 900 gt. They are great. No noise (they are 50/50, but not big block). I currently have 5k miles on them, and no sign of wear, on either the front or rear tire. Overall, I am very impressed.

Now that I think about it, I did put the Shinko 805 on the rear of my Vstrom 1000. Very impressive tire - not noisy and was great off road. Only issue is they never lasted more than about 4k miles on my Vstrom.

I got about 5K out of my Shinko 705 Rear, but the front will easily go 10 to 11K miles. In the future I'll buy two rears and one front and just plan on doinga rear tire swap half way through the fronts life.

If I get 4-5k miles out of the 805 I will be plenty happy. That's 2-3 seasons of my riding on the V-Strom (more miles on the Wing) and I'm mounting my own. (Next time even paying attention to the directional)

Cycle gear store only charges $25 to Mount and balance so I took my wheels off and went to their store and bought the Shinkos there at a nice price. Nice price,store and people highly recommend.

I've run a few shinkos on different bikes over the years and they were fine tires, but none of them lasted particularly well.
Since this thread is getting into mileage on tires, my Mitas E-07+ rear on my 2k3 1000 has about 10,000 miles on it, at least 50% of that being with a passenger and all of it loaded for camping multi day trips. It is just hitting the wear bars. The front E-07 has about 16,000 or so and has about 40% left at least.
I have a set of 705's that came on my WR and I swapped almost right away for knobbies. They don't suit the riding I prefer for the WR, but they are a nice tread pattern, probably pretty perfect for a strom if they get good mileage.
Ive utilized 705's for a few tire cycles. They do quite well on pavement and dirt/gravel roads too. I usually get 6K from the rears and 10Kish from the fronts. The only issue Ive had, which is well doc'd, is the howl that appears at about 5K on the front tire between 50 and 55MPH. Its a little annoying but I just dont ride at that speed unless prompted by a Law officer!!!
