How well do the Shad topcases mount up to a Strom luggage rack, can they be mounted far enough back to allow seat removal and not restrict pillion space? My local dealer had a 40ltr case and I liked the looks and overall quality didn't seem to bad either. Can you leave these unlocked if you want to? I would rather have the option of not having to lock the case for just going to work. Cheers-BB

Yes, yes, and yes.

Shad topcase will meet all the stated needs. There is an adaptor bracket which came with my case (it does not mount directly to the strom rack) which puts the case in a good position when mounted. I have the SH42 Shad Topcase and I've been pleased. No problems removing the seat with the case on. The case can be latched closed without being locked. Overall quality is solid, if a bit spartan. I have zero complaints after almost a year of use.

Yes to all of the above. Have 46L and still fill it on a regular basis. Go biggest you can.

I drilled 4 holes in the stock rack & used new hardware. The universal stuff that came with my 46 L case wasn't that great. My seat barely touches the mounting plate when removed. The GF says its too far forward; she's on once per month, so I haven't bothered to do anything about it yet. I've got an extra 1" to drill towards the back. To move it back anything further would require some sort of plate or interface between the stock rack and the Shad plate.

I run Shad on the top and Givi on the sides. The shad case lets you open and close the case without a key. Locking the case also locks the handle that when moved removes the case from the mounting plate. My Givis require a key to open every time. So for top case duty, the Shad is better. However, the plastic is thinner and quality less so on the Shad. I paid 150 less for the Shad set up compared to a v46. Its all a toss up.

Thanks guys, I ordered the SH45, for a good price ($143.00) and was wondering about mounting it. I have Givi side cases, and like them, but a top case would be over $300 with the mounting plate, plus I like the unlockable option. Thanks again--BB
