I was reading on SV Rider forum about removal of the secondary throttle plates for improved performance? Is this a good idea? I was told by an SV guy that the plates are only for noise reduction at the throttle bodies.

Don't do that on a 650. The computer controls the secondaries to smooth the power output. Whether it helps on a 1000 is debatable but, in the case of the Vee, the computer uses the secondaries to limit power in conditions that are more dangerous. The 650s smaller size keeps it from being a wheelie monster and and a high speed aerodynamic nightmare. The SV guy is wrong about the noise thing.
