Video: Motorcycle crashes on Sea-to-Sky Highway

High speed crash and the rider gets up and rides away.

I ride the sea to sky highway all the time but try to avoid it in the summer when all the squids come out. Lately there has been all sorts of problems and police on the sea to sky. I like to get past Whistler where there are fewer cars.
I didn't need the close-up to tell me he wasn't wearing a tank top, shorts, and flip flops.

They were probably riding/racing to Squamish for coffee. Riding 120/140 in that 60 kph zone is an impound offence and gets real costly.

A lot of odd things going on there. One, that anyone could get up and walk after that impact. Two, that the bike seemed to be one piece. And last that the police would actually disturb an entire neighborhood in order to nab someone for speeding and then taking off. A murderer on the loose I can see but a speeder? I wonder where they draw the line?

HMMmmmmm??? I'll bet that will leave some BRUISES!!

My wife was scheduled to ride the Sea to Sky this weekend, but she chose to stay home to prep for our ride Tuesday MORNING,
leaving from Victoria,
through Anacortes/Winthrop/Leavenworth/
and back through Anacortes.

I don't think the group she would have been riding with [ The Vancouver Island Safety Council Alumni ] included these two law breakers.

PS: I dropped my FJR at highway speed on the MALAHAT last Fall during the first heavy rain ... six vehicle collision with me being # 3 into the oil patch, with the next two vehicles, a caqr and a truck, running right over my bike.

I'll bet my accident would have looked a LOT more impressive on the sky cam than this one ...
and I stood up and walked away too.

The attending RCMP officer [ who had trouble standing up and walking through the oil patch to take my statement ] actually thanked me because
she had been to four M/C accidents that summer, [ ICKY POO!!!] and I WAS THE FIRST M/C RIDER SHE HAD SEEN GET UP AND WALK AWAY!!

YEP!!
BTDT,
got the shredded old BMW Rally 2 jacket to prove it.

No t-shirt ...NO flip flops for this boy ...
these days I don't even leave the driveway without donning all my "Armour".

Stay shiny side up,
LAZ 1

Choppers? Man, I guess the RCMP has too much money! :green_lol:

Reminds me of back home in Washington. Actually I just drove Washington to California today. Nonstop speedtraps. EVERYWHERE. The police tactics are worse than the speeders they're catching. One cop came flying out of the median in front of left-lane traffic, throwing up a cloud of dust, to pull of a Subaru a half mile ahead of me.. I never saw the guy pass me, so he wasn't doing more than 75 or 80mph on the Interstate. Few other really sketchy places to stop and clock people from, lots of brakelights and dangerous situations.

Last time I rode the sea-to-sky it was pissing down rain, couldn't see a thing. Love that road though, but yeah, the stretch from Pemberton going East over the hill is WAY better for riding.

It may seem like overkill on the part of the LEO's but the Sea to Sky is like a racetrack some days. Yes it is a great road to have fun on but there is a limit to the insanity of some riders.

Hello, 911?

Hi, this is Jim at a pay phone in Lyon's Bay.

There is some idiot in a helicopter making a horrible
racket and disturbing the peace by braying like a
jackass on an unintelligible public address system.

I can hear a lot of babies crying now, and I think
the noise distracted some drivers and caused a
wreck downtown. You better send an ambulance.

Huh? Yeah, I said my name is Jim. G'bye, now.

Jim

so how much of that beautiful highway is a 60kph zone?
The speed limit is 80KPH except through Lions Bay, Squamish, and Whistler. I always slow down through those areas as thats were the speed traps are. Once you get past Whistler you can basicly pick your speed as there are few cars an police on the road.
