Scalloped Front Tire

Hi All,

Put Pirelli Scorpion Trail II‘s on my 2019 Strom. Front tire scalloped and I’m replacing it with a Pirelli Angel GT. I don’t ride the Storm off-road. Anyone else had this problem. Front wheel was installed based on factory manual procedure and I have a fork brace.

Thanks,
Ray

Air pressure too low.
OEM is 33psi cold but many do run up to 36psi cold.

My old mentor said aggressive braking during spirited riding can cause wear on trailing edges of tread blocks too.

38-40 psi front and rear.... measured with a gauge that costs more than five dollars

I check tire pressure before every ride. 33 psi as recommended by Suzuki.
I use the stock 33f 36r (41r with pillion).
I ride "briskly" and find no issues or problems with handling and tire wear.

It's normal for a front tire to scallop.

Aggressive use of the front brake will make it more apparent.

totally scalloped a front avon trail rider trail braking into the hairpins on the stelvio this summer. Also went throughbbrake pads in 12,000 km.

I've found that scalloped front tire is too chewy and bland. I much prefer scalloped potato's with a side of country ham and some mustard for dippin'

How many miles/KM on your Scorpion? I also use a fork brace and have gotten 13,846 and 11,354 miles out of two front Scorpion Trail IIs. And yes, they too were scalloped. Mountain curves, heavy front braking at times and trail braking all had a hand in it. I run a lot of freeway at speed with full camp gear to get to the fun roads... I run 35 psi.

I only wish the lobster trap I picked up at a camp between Digby and Glibert Cove had a live one in it! Scallops and lobster, Yum!

Bacon wrapped scallops ain't bad either.

Me thinks the author isn't a rider...

"Here are the 8 common causes of motorcycle tire cupping.
  1. Making sharp turns too fast
  2. Braking too hard
  3. ... "
