I've been riding with the Corbin Canyon seat since last fall and I'm very satisfied with it from a comfort standpoint. As I've explained in other posts, I'm going on a month-long tour with my 19 year old son in 4 weeks. I'm loaning / donating my current 07 Vee to my son for the trip and buying another Strom for me to ride on the trip. For the new bike I decided to buy a Sargent so we'll be able to swap back and forth for a change on the fanny without the same hotspots, and because Sandhill had them on sale so cheap compared to the Corbin.

The Sargent seat came in today, too. Looks GREAT. Better and sleeker than the Corbin IMO. Mounted easily on the bike and hugs the frame really tight. It did have some small tank on the underneath side that I didn't take the time to check out.

Seems to be very comfortable - equal to the Corbin - but of course judgement on that will have to be suspended pending a lengthy road test.

Biggest difference: The Sargent is much lower and narrower in the front, with a more forward riding position. With the Corbin I cannot plant both feet firmly and usually lean to one side and still on a tip toe. With the Sargent I can plant both feet and even have a slight bend in my knee. Got to be at least 1/2" - possibly over 1". With the Sargent my windscreen is now too high. I will have to move the Madstad bracket down from the middle setting to the low setting and readjust the windscreen.

Will experiment with the Nelson Riggs soft saddlebags tonight.

I can't wait for more information. I am about to buy a Sargent, originally was considering the Corbin. I am headed to Alaska in May so I will make the purchase in about a week. Please post more as you go. Thanks.

I also am interested in hearing more.

I was thinking of a custom seat, but it seems with either of the mayer's brothers you are way better off driving in (which given that I am in Hawaii is impossible). So I have resigned myself to the Corbin or Sargent.

I am tall enough (6') that I don't think I would mind the reach of the corbin, infact, I really don't want to give up any height over stock, as I like my legs streched out as much as possible.

I am pretty certain, unless you give me some advice to the contrary, that I will end up getting the Sargent from Sand Hills. Although there are mixed reviews on preference with sargent/corbin... well, most people only own one and review that their's is the correct choice.

... So after the weekend, maybe you could post a few more thoughts?

I initially had no problem with the stock seat . That changed at about12000 miles.
I bought a Corbin-nicely built piece, however the front was too wide, @6-1 with a full tank and skinny legs I was a bit uneasy at stops. I got an rma for a nose job, big hassle,ultimately I sold it. I found it cumbersome and I thought not well suited to the bike. Fit was fine.
I bought a Sargent-flimsy by comparison,much lighter and the foam seemed soft.It has performed very well been very comfortable,easy to move around on,very nuetral in most respects(not hard not soft ,similar to the original only better)
The corbin had caused me to adjust handlebars and change reach,its no contest between the two for me.

I got a sargent seat from sandhills two weeks ago. I'm 6'2 and 185. Never tried a corbin. 2007 650,btw. The sargent seems to slope forward a bit, but I stay planted in it and don't find myself sliding forward. It seems to me the padding feels close to stock, but the design is a lot better. Less pressure point problems. Wider than stock-that helps. Comfortable seat to me, I'd be whining if I said it hurt me, for true.

Ok here's an update. I did about 100 miles on Saturday and 60 on Sunday. More to contrast:

If you got a big butt, you should go Corbin for sure. The Corbin seating pocket is much larger.

Incredibly, the bike handles noticably better with the Sargent seat. The lower center of gravity coming from 2 sources: (1) the Sargent has a lower seating position as I mentioned, and (2) since the Corbin is so much heavier than the Sargent, that's a lot of weight on the top portion of the bike.

The Corbin is very hard, but very comfortable. The Sargent is quite a bit softer.

On my ride down to Tuscaloosa, I actually struggled to find the sweet spot on the Sargent where I was totally comfortable. I did not have this problem on the Corbin, and from the minute I started riding with it I was completely comfortable. I found myself constantly fidgeting on the Sargent. On the way back I realized that this was coming from the fact that it was sloping down towards the front quite a bit, and forcing the bulk of my weight to be carried by the narrow bridge - the same narrow bridge that made possible the easy footing. The Corbin's nose is much wider and rounder.

I had been running my height adjustment near the top, and the following day I adjusted it down to the lowest setting. Bingo. The Sargent was suddenly quite comfortable, and for the duration of my ride on Sunday I was not squirming or struggling to find the right seating position. Even with the lower seat height, for some reason I cannot explain, I did not find myself feeling like my legs were squished up more so than normal. They felt the same, even though the Corbin is certainly higher.

I am 6' even with a 33" inseam, and my son is 5'10" with a 28-30" inseam. He gets the Sargent seat for our tour, because he will benefit the most from the lower height. We will have so much highway / freeway time I'm perfectly happy touring on the comfort of the Corbin. When we get back I may steal the Sargent from him from time to time. I am also a daily commuter, and in those conditions the Strom definitely feels more fun to throw around with the lower seat height of the Sargent.

Well, thanks for the comparo, I was considering the Sargent, but I feel the stocker pushes me to far forward, would you say the Sargent does this more than the stock seat?.

Actually I don't even remember much about the stocker, except that the Sargent is a huge improvement. I think the main thing with the Sargent is just getting the rear height adjustment set to balance it out.

With what I know now, if I had to choose one or the other and hadn't already made my purchases, I would get the Sargent. I really like being down lower, and despite the rumors flying around about me now, my butt is perfectly happy in the smaller seating pocket of the Sargent. The bike just has better manners and is easier to jump on and flit around, with the lower center of gravity. Did I mention the Sargent looks better?

Don't wait too long to order the Sargent. Mine took about 3 weeks to receive after placing the order. That was last August. I would think demand might be higher this time of the year.

I had a Mustang seat on my Harley, and it was quite nice. I see Sargent distributes Mustang seats also.

I like the Russel idea, but not the price or that I have to send in my seat and ride nothing while I wait. I could ride to Lake Shasta and wait, but not for an extra $80.

Yeah, but it's worth the $80 bux! You get personal attention on that day--your seat is what they do for that day. You get it exactly as YOU want it to be, and they will fiddle with it until it's just perfect for you. Otherwise, they do it all from photos you send, and often it's just a guess on their part. Sometimes it works out and sometimes you have to send it back in for adjustments until they get right. In the end, you will have paid at least $80.00 in shipping back and forth, and in the interim, you'll be without your bike. So, IMHO, having had several Russells in the past, the ride in is great and worth the money. And yes, their seats are a bit spendy, but worth every penny. Besides, it's an excuse to go for a nice ride! I'd do the Russell if I could afford it and was near enough to make the trip. It would be just a nice day ride for you.

I was unaware that the Sargent seats were adjustable for height. Is that really the case?

I have an 07 Wee with a Sargent seat.

I 23k on the bike in the 1st year I owned it. That included a 9 day National Park tour last April: I met a friend in Bakersfield and we went to Joshua Tree, then Salton Sea, over to Yuma, stopped for service on my friends Concurs in Lake Havasu City, ran into snow and doubled back to Las Vegas for the night, then Zion, through Dixie National forest (a few feet of snow on the sides of the road so Cedar Breaks was closed), on to Bryce Canyon, then to Tropic for the night. The next day we hit Kodachrome Basin, the Escalante, Capitol Reef, Natural Bridges National Monument, Edge of the Cedars State Park, and spent the night in Moab. Then on to Arches National Park, Canyonlands, and spent the night in Monticello. Then we covered Canyon De Chelly National Monument, down to St. Johns, Show Low and around the Mogolion Rim, split up in Payson, and rode home for 4800 miles in 9 days plus hiking and etc. That was the break-in run for the Sargent. It was pretty good the whole way.

Since it was broken in I made a long ride in June Jemez Springs (NM), to Fresno (Ca), Morro Bay (Ca), Carson City (Nv), did Hwy 50 the Lonliest Hwy, did a Saddlesore 1k from Evanston (Wy) to Davenport (Ia), went to Marietta Ohio, a GS Suzuki Rally in Fayetteville (WV), Virginia Beach, Va, and Back to Jemez Springs through OKC. That made 7560 miles in 13 days and the Sargent was better than the previous trip.

I haven't had a Corbin on the Wee but I did run one on a Honda V65 Sabre that I had for over 100k and loved it. It was the first seat that I ever had that made more than one 1000 mile day in a row possible.

The pre-load adjustment is what controls the height of the back end. The shock pre-load only affects the ride height.

Anybody have any thoughts on Sargent v.s. Corbin for 2-up riding? I'm getting one or the other soon, but would like to retain some comfort for the wife.

The ride in's for a seat adjustment / rebuild is really neat. But, one thing you have to take into consideration. What feels good sitting at the seat makers shop and 500 miles down the road is really different at times. I went thru this with my Corbin redo in Holister last Summer. Felt good on the nose job and lowering of the seat just sitting on it at that shop. But after a full day in the saddle, I realized I should of maybe skipped the lowering part or had him take the lowering further back to make a larger butt pocket. I really didn't want to get into the hassle of shipping the seat back and forth after getting home so just got a few more seats to play with. :confused::confused:

Thanks for the review. I had a Corbin, sold it, and got the gel seat (much better for me than the Corbin). I'm thinking I might just have to pony up for the Russell.
