My girlfriend has a work conference in Sandiego this coming February. We would like to rent a motorcycle while there and take a couple of day scenic ride. We are looking for recommendations on where the best place would be to rent a bike or two and what scenic roads you might suggest. We will have about two full days for riding. V-strom or BMW would be our prefernece for rental bikes. We have never riden the coast or been to the redwood forest.

Thanks for any fedeback you may have.

I’m going to risk sounding like a complete wet blanket but here it goes.

California is a big state. The redwoods are up north, way north. Let’s say you were to ride to Sequoia National Park. That’s about 7 hours from San Diego, one way. With only 2 full days to ride you won’t get to enjoy much of the park. Not only that, but we’re talking about 7 hours on the Interstate. Not the scenic Pacific Coast Highway. That’s going to take much longer. It’s your call…

You can check Eagle Riders for bike rentals. They have nationwide spots where you can pick up motorcycles. There is one near me in San Bernardino. But I checked on their website. No V-Strom or BMW. They do have a Goldwing or FJR1300. However, nearly every Harley dealer around rents bikes.

I’m sorry to rain on your parade. Speaking of which, southern California weather is dry through December. Our rainy winter season is roughly from January to March. So you could get here and find that it isn’t sunny.

Pick up the MadMaps get out of town series for San Diego.
It gives you 6 different day rides out of Sand Diego.
One you need a passport since it crosses the border.
