Folks,

Considering the purchase of a V-Strom 650 or a Kawasaki Versys. In reading posts on both, I read several posts concerning possible early rust issues with the Versys where folks are noticing rust build-up on recently purchased units. My questions for the V-Strom owners are:

Have you noticed any issues with rust that seem out of the ordinary?

How do you counter the effects that lead to or add to current rust build-up?

Being a predominantly dirt bike rider for the last several years, I was used to just washing down the bike with a hose and then oiling / greasing chains, component bolts / fittings, etc.

Thank you.

I live on the saltwater.
Everything around my house rusts....everything.:(

My strom has very very little rust, just a bit in the holes where the screen used to be mounted and the paint was disturbed.
If I had bothered to dab a little paint in there, there would be none.

If I dont get on oiling the chain right after a wash I get a rust bloom on it.

IMO rust is not a worry on the Strom.

I just bought a used 2004 650. I went over the bike carefully and saw no signs of any rust.
