My 2004 1000 in a snap of a finger ran poorly. Common symptoms as pooped off TB boot. It was a LOOSE NEG. BATTERY CONNECTION. After tighten both + -, it fired right up. Ran perfectly for 15 minutes at idle followed by a 15 minute ride. It ran perfect at all rpms and throttle positions. Boy was I happy. Although it may be considered a given to check, I thought it helpful to post.

It is very common for the battery cables to work loose on bikes.

Unlike a car they still start so there is no indication that there is a problem.

A star type washer on the battery terminal screw should help reduce the chance of coming undone due to vibration.
