Okay another new twist in the installation of the gear position indicator. While fiddling around under the side cover next to the seat (in this case on the left, as if you were sitting on the bike) a black rubber "bumper" fell out. I can't get the side cover off due to the fact it appears the bolt closest to the tank is cross-threaded, and i'm reluctant to attack it with a set of Vise Grips. I've tried various screwdrivers, and it is NOT budging. anyway i looked around as best I could and can't figure out where it comes from. I can't see one on the other side of the bike. Here's two pictures. What you can't see is the two "spikes" have red paint, so it appears they contact the body panel somewhere. any ideas?

Two questions:

What is the black crud all over your tank???

Why not remove the ugly warning stickers?

I agree with RADON_STROMMER. Check under the saddle to see where the rubber goes.

I had the same thing with the side cover bolt on the left. Fortunately the person that assembled it just tightened it till it stopped and didn`t reef the bolt in all the way. Once I got it out and I looked into the bolt hole it seemed as if some weld spatter had got onto the threads. A quick run through with a tap did the trick.

Try looking at the bottom of your saddle. ;-)
And then glue all of them in place. I found one of my in my work parking lot one day after I lost it. I did not know it was missing until I parked the next day.

the tank bag is by a company called "bike master" and i'd used it on both of my SVs and my F4i. I have no idea of the strom's tank shape leads to it shuffling around or what but there's no damage to the rubber underneath (the bag that is). I dunno, i'm still trying to convince myself it gives the bike "character."

Seriously? I never heard of that. I took those stickers off first thing.

yup, when the bike was insured, they have a checklist (DOT helmet, lights, horn, etc) and one of them are OEM warning stickers. Which leads me to wonder, if I had bought the bike used, would they refuse to insure unless it had stickers?!?!?

If anyone really really really needs warning stickers they have no business on a bike.
