I tried searching the forums but came up empty...

Are there any decent websites for planning motorcycle trips and printing maps? For road bicycling there's a a really good one called mapmyride.com -- it lets you plan, print and upload to a GPS or smartphone. But I'd prefer to use a moto-specific one.

Thanks,

I like map my ride too. I find that the MapSource software that came with my Garmin works well but I like Google Maps just as much. Printing is an issue, even in MapMyRide. I haven't tried to print anything yet, but then I haven't tried to plan anything major either.

I just did a trip with Google maps. Easy to set waypoints, easy to print.

When you print, copy the map and print it. If you print directly from Google, you get all the directions with each map.

Tyre is pretty good software, uses Google Earth and outputs maps, .gps files in all the good formats, etc. Easy and versatile.

You can also use GPS Visualizer to print out maps of the routes you've built. Works well as a companion. Then import your GPS file into Google Earth and "fly" the route with terrain turned on for a real chance to see the elevation, roads, etc.

HD Ride Planner :hurray:

I looked at like 20 a Harley Davidson is the best.....

Note you MUST put a way point on any specific route you want to rake

Zoom in on way point turns and move it to the NEXT road. If your zoomed out you can put it off in the weeds by accident.

You can save, share and upload to my Garmin 300 is easiest of all.

Thanks for all the good info thus far, and if anyone has other suggestions for route planning websites, please keep 'em coming!

The Dual Sport Moto app looks awesome for when you're on the road (offroad) in the middle of nowhere and need guidance, but it doesn't look like it's designed for planning a route.

The Harley Davidson planning site looks like exactly what I'm after but I'm having difficulty printing out the maps afterwards with any detail. It seems to just want to give me the overview larger map with the directions. What I'd like is to be able to print out a quadrants with all the details. Am I missing something?

I love the fluidity of the google interface, but I've been finding that when you mail the map to someone, or pull it as a link to refer to someone, that waypoints will fail to resolve when you re-open, and you need to remap those spots.

It's a little irritating.

A trooper I rode with recommended Tyre, and it also exports as GPX, which is convenient.
