Hello All -

Can anybody confirm that the Shell Rotella T synthetic oil in BLACK 4-qt containers at Canadian Tire is the same Rotella T synthetic that comes in blue (or some other color) containers in the US.

Time for the first oil change of the season and I want to use the synthetic stuff

Thanks!

Mind your G's and Q's at CTC.

Canadian Tire sells quarts of oil, and gallons of oil.

So why do you see prices like $4 per quart and $17 per gallon?

Answer: The quarts are American quarts and the gallons are Imperial quarts.

I kid you not. Look at the metric measure marked on each container and you can verify my statement.

Second question: WHY?

I think this puzzling state of affairs is a consequence of Pierre Trudeau's rabid attack on all non-French units of measure. Exactly how it resulted in the current setup, I cannot imagine.

Third question: Is this why Canadian paint stores now sell paint in U.S. gallon cans instead of Imperial gallon cans?

Probably. The price didn't go down, but we knew that!

Keep spinning, Pierre! May the snow never stay frozen on your grave!

For those of you living close to the American border, the 5W40 full synthetic oil in the blue jug is half price.

I would imagine that it is a packaging issue. Cheaper for them to use the same containers in both countries.

Cheers!

I have seen the Shell Rotella T in the CTC stores but it is not the synthetic oil and it says so on the lable. The only place I have found the Synthetic Rotella T is from a Shell bulk distributer. Here in Pembroke I have paid as little as $21.00 and as high as $29.00 cdn for a 4 ltr jug. This was last fall.8) That is usually $9-$12.00 cheaper than any synthetic oil from CTC.
