Hello everyone. I have been googling about looking for a roll on test for the 2014 V Strom 1000 but cannot find one. I realize this bike is not a high speed machine and I have no intention of using it as one. However, I do live near a section of Interstate 80 that has a speed limit of 85 and I occasionally do have cause to travel there on. My current motorcycle, a Kawasaki Vulcan 900, can do 85 but struggles to get up to 95 for a quick overtake. It will get going that fast but it takes a bit of a run up to build the speed and that is unsettling in traffic. So my question concerns whether or not the V Strom 1000 can comfortably run at 95 for brief bursts (I have no intention of maintaining that cruising speed). Also, what kind of run on is required to get from 85 to 95? Sadly it skipped my mind to include this test on my test ride. Also it would have been imprudent and dangerous.

Thanks in advance. I don't need specific specs, just some opinions. I frankly don't know that it will even matter in my purchasing decision as most of my riding is between 45 and 65 mph and this bike seems perfect for how I use a motorcycle.

Haven't had a chance to check that...I've run 80 in 4th with the engine humming. It's ready to run past, way past, 95 without a problem. One of the magazine test riders wrote that he got to 135 mph on a machine that wasn't fully broken in. After break in it just does everything easier.

In third gear, a DL 1000 accelerates at about 10 mph per second. 4th takes slightly longer. 4th will get you to around 120 mph. 60 to 90 is about 3-4 seconds. Once you hit 5th, the HP is limited and therefore so is the acceleration. It takes a few seconds to get from 120 to 130, and beyond that you'll have to talk with someone else. The 650 needs a little more time though it still is pretty quick under 100. Mine did the quarter mile in 12 seconds at 112 mph or so when it was stock. So 'Stroms aren't slow, just not crotch rockets. They're really fun to ride and very capable.

You will think you are on a superbike compared to that Vulcan, the Stroms are no slouches......especially the 1000.

Exactly. The Vulcan is a pussycat compared to the Vee. The 1000 probably has double the HP of the little cruiser even though it's no superbike it will still feel like it's ripping your arms off compared to the Vulcan.
