How do we know when someone has 'Bought The Farm' , 'Gone For a Burton' etc?

Do the moderators simply 'retire' user I.D's that fall dormant?

Not a laughing matter really, but , the older I get, the more I feel that each ride is a 'mission' and it is only a combination of luck and judgement that get me home again.

I lost my nerve completely for a while, but I learned to ride at 14, and it's in my blood.
Seriously, when someone buys it, or gets injured, we could be there for support in body or in spirit. Just a thought. I have lost friends ( and enemies) on bikes over the years.

What the heck is "gone for a Burton"? I am concerned, because that is my last name!!!!!:mrgreen:

It's frightfully English . Burtons was an ale house a short distance from a bomber base during WW2.

A frequent faux pas was to ask where someone was ( when they were known by others to have been killed ) and the euphemism was to say they 'must have gone for a Burton'

That is an odd request, but I can see why you are wondering. A few of "the regulars" wer recently concerned when another "regular" just fell off the map. Well, we tracked him down and all is well. Sometimes we just need a break.

So please, all current-active members if you kick the bucket, please let us know afterwards. ;)

Back from the dead!

I was just reading about lost members and the thought occurred to me that I am one, no not a stiffy just changed bike.
I was a 1000 Strommer had the Renegade’s, air box mod, big screen, luggage, loud horns, but the vibs through the bars over a series of bumps beat my hands up
and no one had an answer so it went and I lurked.
An AN400, warm comfy loads of space and 70 mpg imperial (58 US), didnt like being shunted into central reservations by buses.
Triumph Bonneville 800 nice and sedate I thought, getting on a bit slow me down, too bl**dy slow , I’m not ready for pipe and slippers yet, SV 650 ex-demonstrator 32 miles on it 20 by me, nice to be back with the Vtwin.
Then my dealer said his Strom 650 exdemo was up for sale, after a workout on it, I thought ah same engine lots of space to stretch out and the vibs through the bars were no more, did the preload adjusters curing it, anyway it felt good and loads of bits off the 1000 would go on and it was fun in a way the 1000 was a pain. Still had that weedy horn though but now I had found a mounting for the Stebel air horn on the engine bars, great, and would another fit on the other side better still my Fiamms mounted on the other side. Whoa drivers started to swear at me, something that woke them up. Anyway two years on that, great fun and 60 mpg (72 US) and I dont hang about but then my friend started to keep falling off for no reason car pulls out hit the brakes fall off wet or dry dont ask! That got me thinking about ABS and my dealer was thinking about selling his demo Strom ABS with 90 miles, at a good price, not a hard decision.
So here I am again with a K7 touring and equipping it again from afresh, I thought, should I have moved to a different model, no change here, will be a bit boring, how much was I wrong! The engine seems to pull better, the exhaust note is very different, pegs different, and the ride is lush so what have they changed? I cant find any difference on paper did I miss something?
Anyhow it good to be alive again and I’m looking to enjoy some new found fun.
