Hey guys/gals. Just rode the bike down from NY. Any suggestions on a shop to put on much needed new tires and a nice ride to break them in? Thanks!

I only grew up there.

As a general rule, a BMW dealer would be the most likely to have tires to fit in stock, especially the front. I've spoken to folks who said they're not too ridiculously expensive for tires.

I have no personal experience, here's one near Hwy 441 (State Road 7) near I-595:

441 Cycle Shop/Bmw
4201 Peters Rd | Fort Lauderdale, FL , 33317
PH: (954) 581-8970 | FX: (954) 581-8970

As for a ride to break them in, I'd get out to US27 head north, find your way around Lake Okeechobee and back along the beach on A1A in the evening stopping for dinner at a beachside restaurant along the way. That should consume most of a day.

Good Luck,

Norm

Hi Triax,

I have two suggestions:

Boca Cycle. They have a good variety of tires in stock and a shop to change them. A bit expensive, but they usually have the sizes for our bikes. The shop is East of I-95. Take the Glades Road exit East to Boca Ave (2ond). Turn North and go about 2 miles to the first traffic light. The shop is on the NE corner. 561.391.6737

Cycle Gear. There was a Metzler 19" there the other day that was the exact VStrom front size. Should be several rears to choose from. Exit Commercial Blvd West and go about 4 miles West to University. Turn left (South) and go about 1/4 mile, the shop is in a strip on the East (left) side. Ask for the Manager Dennis, he's a very nice guy. They'll install and balance for $20 with the wheel off. If you can't pull the wheel, Dennis knows a guy who will come right over and do it for you in the parking lot. Not sure the price for that.

Feel free to call me at 954.655.3525. I have a pretty complete shop setup at home, and would be happy to help you in any way. We can pull your wheel and take it to Cycle Gear, or whatever else I can do to assist.

Kenneth

Thanks guys for the insight. I'll be here for a month so it's not an emergency repair. Just gotta do it before I head north. Again thanks for the advice and info. Very cool.

My favourite shop in the area is Extreme Custom Sportbikes - http://www.extremecustomsportbikes.com/ in Coconut Creek. Don't let the 'extreme' name put you off, it is sport bike oriented but the guys are great and take good care of you.

They aren't likely to have our size in stock but you can call Gary at 954-421-6766 and see what he can get for you. You could also order from something like motorcycle superstore and he has no problem putting them on. $30/tire on the bike and $15/tire is the wheel is off the bike.
