Right side grip screw isnt tightening after removal

I took off my hand guards and bar end weights to install grip puppies. I got the left side attached pretty easy but when it came time to screw the pieces back together on the right side it would not tighten.

Inside the grip I can see a rubber plug thing and a 2 inch or so metal tube with no threads, there doesnt seem to be any threads anywhere in side the grip even though I just removed the screw.

My Grip Puppies slide over the bar end weights. I didn't need to remove them.

Thanks for the tip. I took off the other side and pushed it through with a hanger.
