Spoke with rifle fairings today. Was told 4-6 weeks for possible delivery times on new 04 fairings. Varied heights. Price not determined.

Doesn't look like any guinea pigs are needed.....for something that probably will never come out. I called 4 months ago and asked out whether or not the screen would clear the standard handguards on the DL1000 (they have a DL650 pictured on their site). Their answer, "We don't know." Oh, great. Looks like there might me a Manta in my future.

POTENTIAL HELP FOR WINDSHIELD ISSUE

REgarding the windshield struggle. Here's a mod idea I plan to try that might make a pretty decent improvement.

like my bro' Hous I have a Givi, which comes close to working, but not close enough. When I have it in its best position, I note that if I lean forward [not DOWN so much as just forward] things get a lot better fast. I have to have mine in the full top position to get goodness, so its really sticking up there like a popsicle on a stick. The maker did not contemplate folks actually USING it in that position, so it lacks a skirt when its run up that high.

Anyway, the idea is simply this: The 'yoke' that is used to mount the screen, being adjustable, moves up in a geometry that is not matched to the pitch of the underlying fairing, so when it moves up, it does not follow the contour of the rest of the tupperware. The effect is that in the full up position, the there is about 1.2" of wasted space that could be reclaimed with a good attachment design. I'm thinking I can get just a couple of simple aluminum struts fab'd that would screw in where the yoke goes, but rake back at an angle sufficient to use that 1.2" and effectively mount the shield UP, but BACK to the point it fits flush with the front fairing. Would probably use some felt weather strip material to cushion the edges, but the givi has an edge that helps in this respect.

See what I'm getting at? That puts the screen at least that much closer to the driver: right now it is a long ways away from me.

I am using a cee bailey 23.5 inch 10% tint screen on my DL1k K5 . I'm 6' and this screen works pretty good. Cee Bailey did a pretty good job on the design, as the sides are cut out for the mirrors and hand guards. 8)

by 'pretty good' I'm guessing that you are buffeted at interstate speeds, unless you lean into the windshield?
and, at what height setting?

the givi is 22.5 inches, so pretty close to same

i may give the taller cb a try... may as well....
