This report is for Sacramento-Reno area Stromers who may be interested in a nice dirty ride!

A buddy of mine (on a BMW 1200GS) and I (on my Orange Wee), went for a day trip from the Sacramento area up to Soda Springs. From there, we took the trail from Soda Springs to Robinson Flat, at the east end of Foresthill Road. It was a terrific ride!

This is me and the Strom about halfway through to Robinson Flat.

After riding the slab from Loomis to Soda Springs, we turned down Soda Springs Road. In about a mile, the pavement stopped.

Ice Lakes Lodge is at the very end of the pavement. (It looks like it's closed now, too bad, it was a very nice place).

Soon, things got interesting:

We did a lot of puddle splashing on this ride, it had rained earlier in the week. This actually saved our butts though, because one guy we talked with on the road told us that logging trucks had turned one stretch into two feet deep of dust! when we got there, it was tamped down real nice.

This picture (above) was just past that stretch. Behind me was a really awesome view (below).

We finally reached Robinson's Flat, Here my friend Kevin is refilling his bottle at the well.

We did a quick side trip to the fire lookout before heading down to Foresthill vis a wonderful, twisting road.

This was a great ride, although a little demanding for me. There are some rocky, steep switchbacks that demand your attention, I did drop the Strom once at a near stop. Other than that, no serious incidents! If you're in the Sacramento area, and want a little dirt road action, I can really recommend it for the Strom. Just make sure it's not really wet or really dry! My bike has a stock suspension, except for a fork brace, and of course, a bunch of SW Motech stuff bolted on, (most notably, for this ride, crash bars and skid plate!), and it handled everything pretty well.

Heh yeah when I'm there it's usually for a week at a time. Last time I was there I did a loop from SLT over Kingbury into Minden and up to Reno and back down the east side of the lake. That was a fun ride. I need to find more dirt to ride in while I'm there though.
