All these are against forum rules. I killed two threads today and neither were reported though one had complaining posts in it. If you see a post that violates the letter or the spirit of the rules, report it by clicking the
icon above the post and the mods will determine if action is warranted. Otherwise we may not see it. This is not about agreeing or disagreeing with the content, but whether the content breaks the rules. Everyone needs to be familiar with the rules to post here. http://www.stromtrooper.com/stromtrooper-com-support-help-information/48470-rules.html

I've just now read the rules through two times just to be clear. I didn't see anywhere in there that politics and religion are not allowed to be included in posts either in the spirit or the letter of the law. Maybe I missed it.

While I certainly enjoy reading a forum that doesn't often dissolve into hate and dissent, I'm not sure a general ban of any and all forms of political or religious expression is appropriate or necessary.

I read a post recently on here that contained very strong religious views that were in direct conflict with my personal strongly held beliefs. It was that person's perspective so I didn't feel the need to engage in an argument. He has the right to believe and express what he chooses.

I know this is not a religion forum, I don't come here for those discussions and don't intend on making this one. However if I'm giving a ride report and want to comment on some beautiful landscape and how I felt closer to God while viewing it, I don't think the post should be taken down or that I should be banned. It is a simple expression of my spiritual self. I don't feel I should have to cut out or ignore my spiritual beliefs just to post here. Part of the reason I ride is to clear my mind of the junk of life, which in itself I consider a spiritual action.

FWIW, my occupation is Prison Chaplain and I work with people from dozens of beliefs systems and those even with no "faith". In no way do I personally believe all those belief systems are good, true, right or even helpful. But I do fight every day for the rights of people to hold those beliefs even if I think they are wrong. It is one of the primary reasons the USA was originally established.

If someone is truly being disrespectful or hateful I appreciate that being removed. I don't think that advances our sport or our culture in a positive direction.

As far as the rules, they clearly state there is to be no posting that which could be considered "obscene". I've seen lots on here that I might consider obscene and someone else may not. Right now there is an Avatar of a women shooting a bow with a large portion of her breast exposed. I consider that obscene, others may not. It's embarrassing for me to be reading through a post in a public area and all of a sudden that Avatar comes up.

I've never moderated a forum and don't want to begin as I'm sure it is at times a pain in the butt.

Thanks for doing the dirty work of moderating and letting me express my opinion. It's just my own and others shouldn't feel the need to argue against my opinion. However, if they want to express their own.....it's a free country.......just maybe not a free forum (said with a smile and an intended laugh point).

The rules http://www.stromtrooper.com/stromtrooper-com-support-help-information/48470-rules.html contain a link to off topic rules, http://www.stromtrooper.com/off-topic-member-therapy/26341-off-topic-rules.html , which specifically prohibit religion and politics, which are off the V-Strom topic wherever anyone puts them.

Your reference to a feeling of a spiritual connection is fine. It's posts concerning the value or lack thereof of a religion, sect or church that are off limits. That avatar is a perfect example of why I wrote this. Report a post containing that avatar as offensive to you. If nobody reports such stuff, the moderators will probably consider it acceptable.

Thanks for that last point. It is not a free forum but a private one and the owners make the rules. The important part is that it works for the greatest good of the greatest number with the purpose of supporting the community of V-Strom riders and people interested in the bikes and their riders. The owners and moderators need feedback like yours to accomplish that end.
