Have a 2014 650, would like to replace the fork oil, not because I need to but with the hope of improving fork performance at minimal cost.
Body weight is 175 lbs, have preload adjusters at 3 turns in from full out for a sag of 1.5", so do not see a need for stronger springs. Before springing (no pun intended) for Cogent cartridges, want to try just changing oil. Have researched for specifics but have a couple of questions: Seems Centistoke is the preferred viscosity unit for fork oil, and factory oil is around 35 Cst based on older posts on this site. Is this true for the newer 650 (Glee) as well as older ones? Is there any benefit from going lighter? Have ordered a liter each of Maxima racing fork oil, 5 and 10 wt, which corresponds to Cst of 16 and 37, to give me options. Is 140mm air gap still the right oil level for the newer 650s? Do the caps go on with fork fully extended, so as to seal in the maximum amount of air?

The air is determined by the amount of oil in the fork. I have seen 120-140mm for the Wee, not sure of the spec for the Glee, the air gap is measured with fork tube compressed. I used a straw marked at the desired level, a syringe and hose with correct level measured will work like magic in pulling the extra oil out and making both legs even. Feel free to send me a txt if you need an extra set of hands or eyes. Do you know if the oil was ever changed in your forks by the Previous owner? If they are harsh or hard I would say 5wt oil, if they are springy, then 10 or 15wt fork oil. My impression was they were a bit harsh. If you plan on installing cogent ddc as a second option go with the 5wt, that is what the ddc likes from what I have read. The folks at Sonic springs are both knowledgeable and helpful. Forks will be fully extended to put caps back on. I backed off my preload all the way as well to make reassembly easier. There are a couple good walk through threads, the Wee and glee should be similar in process.
