For the first time in my motorcycling life, I lost one of my two keys for my motorcycle. I try to throw a little business to the local dealer when I can. Well, they quoted me $48.50 just for the key blank. Call me a tightwad; but, that's not going to happen.

I searched here in the old "replacement key" thread and it was of no help. So, for those of use, especially me, with 2017+ DL650s, I started this one.

Can anybody provide a source, ebay or otherwise for key blanks. I've found a couple on ebay that work for earlier versions of 650s or for DL1000s; but, as of this time, I couldn't find anything specific for mine. If you have found a source, please provide the information. I, and I assume others, would greatly appreciate it.

Oh, on another note, I also lost my spare key to my Kappa top box. A source for a key there would also be appreciated. Please note, I am just beginning my search and if I come up with a solution I will post it/them here.

Do the 2017 Suzuki's use a chip key? I would be surprised if they did not.

They do not.
So if it is not a chipped key AND if it is the same format as my '14 V-2 ... ( I think it is). I buy key blanks for a Suzuki car and just have the guy trim the shaft a bit at the hand-hold end so the key can reach all the way in. Plain ol' key price _ good to go.

I got a few of the Chinese knock off keys for our 1st gen 650 ignition's and the quality of the metal is poor (soft) so not great for a daily user but suitable for a backup. Oh, and the local lock shop charged $12.00 to cut it.

Not much help for the 2017 but something to watch out for...

Good luck!

The ilco x276 (suz16) shown on the left is a perfect fit. the X241 (suz18)will also fit, but you'll have to grid off corners of the head to make it fully seat into the ignition, as shown on the far right.

North American bikes do not, but folks here from other countries have claimed theirs do.

Same experience here with my '17. The cheap Chinese eBay blanks with the stock-style plastic head have metal like butter. The guy who cut mine for me couldn't believe how soft they were. Fine for an emergency spare, but not for daily use.

Well, I concur with brock29609 and can confirm that the ilco x276 is a perfect fit.

I can also confirm, for those who need a key for Kappa luggage, that the ilco x226 does not work as a replacement. Well, at least I have 4 of those I can use for wind chimes.
