Hey, guys, I am replacing my front turn signals and I need to disassemble the Mitsubishi ultra compact 2 pin connector. I cannot understand how the tab mechanism locking the pin works. I got one out but I just got lucky, I cannot get the second to move. Suggestions? Thanks!

Not sure what the connector looks like any more, but why don't you snap a few close-up pix of both ends of the connector that you have managed to remove? From these pix you should be able to determine where the tabs are located and how they are to be operated / pressed to remove the connector. Sometimes it is a matter of brute force once the tab locks have been freed.

Usually a pin does it. There's usually a tang that pops up to lock them when inserted, slide a pin down the back, push that tang down and pull the pin out.

Jewelers screwdriver sets usually come with a very small option. If a pin doesn't work the smallest screwdriver usually does.

At work we had a pin install/extract kit that made working on those things easy. Until some weasel mechanic pilfered it at hid it in his tool box. Stinking fink.
Then we had to make do with small screwdrivers or make our own tools.The round pins were the biggest bother. We had to find a bit of metal tubing to do the job.

I did it once and there is a trick to it. It was a while back, I can't remember all the details but I made up some kind of a probe to release the "barb" holding the pin.

Thanks if you can remember what was the trick I am all ears. I disassembled all kinds of electrical connectors and these little ass****s have been the most challenging so far. I somehow succeeded in removing one of the pins but I destroyed the other in the process ...

I'm sure I had taken pictures of what I was doing when removing the pins and of the tool I made in case I needed to do it again. I'm pretty sure the Photobucket fiasco ended my access to those pictures if indeed that's where I put them. I'll keep looking...

I think the tool I made was a 2 inch nail ground flat on two sides. The real trick is to figure out which end and side to go at it from. If you have one apart already, take a close look under magnification to see if it reveals any clues. Once figured out its so easy you're going want to slap your own forehead... :grin2:

I mangled up one of the pins while removing them from the connector so I ended up having to buy new connectors online.
If anybody has a picture of the extracting tool I think that would be very helpful for future reference.

If your locking tab depressing tool is of the right size and shape and capable of pushing the tab down and still no luck I would suggest that the tab is bottoming out on the connector plastic housing and not being depressed enough. If you haven't tried it already, push the exposed metal of the pin that you are trying to remove inward toward the plastic housing at the same time that you are depressing the tab. That should clear the tab to be pushed down enough. After that you should be able to pull it out. I hope that's clear.

If it’s the pins on connecting the front indicators to the wiring it’s just lift up on the tab and pull as apposed to pushing a tab down to release. I just did this the other day installing Baja designs signals. I cut the connectors off the old signals and put th3m on the new ones. Then they just slide back in and click. They only fit one way. Gotta work blind but I was able to do both just by turning the bars and cramming my hands in there.
