I synced up the TB's today. Being a new bike (350 miles) I didn't think they would be too far off, but they were 2 feet off!

2 feet meaning in my homemade contraption using 2-stroke oil, the difference between the left and right level was 2 feet (maybe more)! Is this some kind of record? :)

FYI: Since turning the screw with needle nose pliers is tough, you might want to know which way to turn the screw depending on if the front or rear TB has more vacuum. On my DL1000 turning the screw counter clockwise will decrease the front TB vacuum (lowering the level). Turn clockwise would decrease the rear TB vacuum.

Anyway the bike runs a lot smoother. I'm glad I did it now instead of waiting because it may make a difference in engine break-in? Not sure. Revs really nice and smooth now especially at higher rpms.

It's hard to say if it's a record... Different fluids show differently due to the viscosity.

I have mercury sticks and mine were about an inch off. What a difference the sync makes!

Check out your TPS as well, mine was one bar off on the low side.

According to the post I found on construction of this thing I used, the movement of oil vs. mercury is about 13/16" (oil) vs. 1/20" (mercury). So that means if you were off by an inch using mercury that would = about 16.25 inches if you were using oil. Mine was off AT LEAST 24 inches!

On the TPS, I heard you didn't need to worry about this adjustment. Something like it's never off or doesn't matter? I'll get more info on it however and adjust it if needed.

It only takes a few minutes to check it and adjust it, and it does make a difference.

You just short two pins in the connector under the left side panel, turn on the key and look at the bar. In the middle you're fine, top or bottom bar and your fuel delivery is not optimum.

The STPS (for the secondaries) is probably not as big a deal, but the TPS is pretty important.

Good job Chris! Mine were *only* off by twelve inches or so....makes a difference, eh??

You DID turn the correct screw, didn't ya? heehee.
BIG DIFFERENCE! I turned the screw the wrong way the at first, because I thought I noticed the oil beginning to level out and just before the oil was about to overflow over the top of the yardstick, I quickly turned it the other way! Not sure how far I turned it but probably a total of 3/4 of a turn from its original position to get it right.

Warren, do you need a special device to check the TPS? What "bar" are you talking about? Is it on the instrument panel?

I feel bad for you. I fashioned the homemade manometer using ATF and a yard stick. Using previously installed tubes to the carb nipples (!) I got a whopping 1" difference (after 24,000 miles). I adjusted it to get 3/4 inch the other way. Lucky, I guess. I hesitate to test/measure anything else on the bike.

You need two things:
Warren,
Were you able to adjust the TPS with the tank and all still intact? I did a TPS when I sync'd by throttle bodies and installed a new air filter, so it was all disassembled, however, it looked like I could probably accomplish the TPS with everything still on the bike (tank, etc.). I installed vaccum tubing to make my next sync easier, and was curious if I could do both a sync and TPS adjustment without removing the tank.

Thanks,
Bill

Hi guys. About this TB sync issue, I have the impression it is mostly with the 1000. Do the Wee's also have an issue with this other than regular maintenance etc. I hesitate to dig into my Wee as it runs so smooth now after 3000 klicks that I might mess up a good thing.
