Changed the front & rear sprocket on my 2009 Vee at 37,000 km. I took the time to lay a straight edge (ruler) against the back side of the old rear sprocket to see if I needed a spacer. The area where the chain rubs the back of the sprocket was polished but not used. So in my case a rear spacer is not required.
As a side note I use the OEM marks on the swing arm for wheel adjustment and a toothpick for fine adjustment.
