my rear tire got "recalled" on commute this morning. Only ~1500 miles on the Dunlop.

I dont even really know how this happens?? I'm guessing front tire flips debris up and it lands just in front of rear. Heard a loud pop and rode it a few hundred yards - it slowly lost air.

I've been meaning to post a hello post with my new 800 so here we go. I'm really enjoying it so far! :)

Yep, will try and pull the extra piece out and keep it for sure. Hoping the rim wasn't hit at all but haven't examined it close enough yet.
I ran a bunch of TKC70's on my DL650, so i've got a TKC 70 Rocks on order for this.

Tow truck Dude was excellent!

Yikes, I had a huge spike in my rear tire on I5 years ago with my wife on the back doing 70 mph, it went pancake flat in seconds. I was lucky to keep it upright while moving over to the shoulder. That looks like it would be a bit more than the plug kit and compressor I carry would fix.

Wow! Yes, the front tire is the villain in a lot of cases. On my old Trophy board one older experienced fellow made a thick leather flap that he hung on his centre stand with big cable ties to stop debris getting to the rear tire. Never had another flat.

It must be the season…..had a large 16 penny nail flatten my rear RE tire two weeks ago. I was able to plug it to get home and then patched/plugged the tire from the inside after losing air a few days later.

I got lucky two years ago with a nail in my Tenere 700.

Yup, debris being kicked upright as you ride over it is the common failure.

If you are REALLY careful you can hang some mudflap from the swingarm or back of the skid pan, long enough that it almost scrapes the ground and taking care that it can't hook the tire. Supposedly that helps a lot. (Supposedly, punctures are so erratic that it could just be luck instead of that making a difference)
