Rear Tire Adjuster Question

2294 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  blaustrom
One month owner of 2014 650. I’m reading everything I can as I go over this bike. I’ve noticed that the rear tire/chain “adjuster” (the 5mm screws on rear of swingarm) don’t match. The left side adjuster is on the bottom while the right is on the top. Every picture I have found shows both to be on the bottom. Assuming it doesn’t technically matter but wanted to check with more seasoned v strom owners.

You can pull them out and flip them around. Which seems to be what someone did to yours.

My guess is it was a dealer. We don't do that kinda stuff (silly mistakes) around these parts.

Pics are best.

Replacing the rear sprocket and chain today.

No rush, so I removed my adjuster and cleaning it up a bit. Not going to put it in upside down either.

Thanks for the reply. Looks to be a straightforward job so I know what my next project is. :D Thanks again

Just change them next time the rear wheel needs to come out. I wouldn't touch them now. They are really not holding anything once the axle is torqued up.

More important is to make sure there is anti-seize on the axle nut threads and if you still have the castellated nut replace it with the newer self-locking type (
). Torque to only 58 ftlb (Torque values)
