I haven't seen any post about anyone having had this issue, but I'd like to share my experience. This is a follow-up from my original post
Pre-load adjuster ceased when engine is hot
2020 1050XT, I used the preload adjuster extensively having a pillion on and off very often in the first 2 years.
Summer 2022 was hot as hell in Europe and I did some atrocious 35-42°C / 95-106°F riding over 1800 miles that seemed to have cooked the preload adjuster. As a result, it was impossible to adjust the preload when the engine was hot, even long after that trip and in the middle of winter in the UK. Only when the engine was cold was I able to adjust the preload (note that I am not talking about adjusting the preload when sitting on the bike, this I haven't found to be ever possible). My conclusion was that something must have damaged the preload adjustment mechanism, probably heat-related during my hot-as-f travels.
Kudos to my dealership in Waltham Cross in North London who won the fight with Suzuki to get the shock replaced under warranty.
