Got up Saturday with the intent to go for a ride on my 2012 650 and found a screw in my rear tire. As part of setting up the bike, I have a plug kit, but have never plugged a tire. Having been presented the opportunity I gave it a try. I seemed to have done ok, it is still holding the 40 lbs that I put in. Over the weekend I decided not to ride the bike on the plug, but to take the tire in and have it patched instead. Right or wrong, I feel it my be safer and a more long term fix. Tire only has 2000 miles. This morning I took the tire off and I loosened my chain adjusters. They now have fallen backwards like they want to fall out of the back of the swingarm. Will these go back in and catch as I tighten the adjuster screws back up, or will there need to be some sort of additional action I will need to take to get them back to normal. Thanks for replies.

Personal choice obviously, but if the plug has been inserted correctly it will hold for the tyre life. If it gives way, or pops out yes the tyre will go down, but usually slowly, not explosively like a tube tyre. Take that with an ounce of caution, I know I have done it for a brand new front tyre for 18,000km, and rode a very worn rear tyre, plugged it and had it internally patched at the first opportunity. New tread, old tread makes a difference.


As for the adjusters, there should have been no need to adjust or change these, take wheel off, put back on, unless the chain is stretched, that is what it is for.

But, finally , to answer the question, yes, you have backed the hex screw too far out of the adjuster, so, screw them back in(without the wheel in position) and guid by hand the adjusters into the frame.

Note, because you have adjusted both adjusters independently and probably at different rates, you will need to back them all the way out as far as they go, set the wheel, then make sure both adjusters are adjusted in as per the manual. Keep an eye on the markings on the swing arm, they have to be accurate and equal

Tighten the axle bolt a bit, just enuff, so the adjusters don't slide backwards and out of the swingarm. Tightening the axle provides enough friction to keep everything in place. The adjusters will still move the axle backwards when you turn the adjuster screw - but won't fall out anymore.

Thanks you guys for the responses. Should help me to get them back in there. I had marked them and counted the turns, but I don't think that matters now that I've gone to far. I'll just start again as per your responses. Thanks again.
