I found a source for large metric nylock nuts and wonder if they are a good idea for the rear axle. I know there are locknuts with the metal inserts, but I am concerned that they will destroy the threads after numerous on/offs. My question is :

What is the size and thread pitch of the rear axle nut? Fine or course thread?

I wouldn't use a nylock on the axle. You can get locking axle nuts from Dual-Star and they won't damage the axle even after repeated on/offs.
