Have you loosened both adjusters all the way? To get to the two lower adjusters, you need to remove the tank then remove the airbox.

By the way, after you get the cables connected, I like the opening cable adjusted as close as I can get it with no slack, and if the closing cable is too tight it prevents the twist grip from snapping shut when released.

throttle cable

thanks PTRider, i reversed the order i attached the cables (pull/top cable 1st then lower/return cable). did have adjusters screwed in completely, interestingly, while adjusters initially about even, after re-adjusting they were as you describe, with top cable adjuster farther out. thanks for reply. @ the risk of hyperbole/blowin smoke up an arse, allow me state it sure is nice to stand on the shoulders of relative giants ( Greywolf, Black Lab and yourself) while working on my wee. Rode a '78 yamaha xs 650E for 3 decades prior to wee purchase ('07 bought used in "08) and have certainly come to appreciate relative simplicity and ease of access while working on old yamaha. vinegarjoe
