Looking @ a couple of bike this weekend,
09 650 29k miles
04 1000 24k miles

Anything in particular that I should be aware of/check for with these year models ?

What's a reasonable price range?

Go with the 650, you get ABS and a bike capable of 60 MPG. The first gen 1000's are "very" temperamental and usually need quite a bit of tweaking to make them run like they should.

I agree, except not all 09's have ABS.

A DL650 is a much more sorted out bike than a first-gen DL1000.

As far as price goes, it his hard to give you a meaningful idea of the value in your area without knowing what country and perhaps province, state or territory you are from.

Since when don't all 09 650's and higher not have ABS? :confused:
From a different thread: In 2007 ABS was only available in grey. 2008 ABS was only available in black. Then Grey again in 2009.

I think that starting in 12 they all had ABS, not sure though.

Just found this: Suzuki doesn’t miss a year from impressing its consumers with the middleweight V-Strom model, so the bike is not only present in the 2010 lineup, but comes in three different versions: the V-Strom 650, V-Strom 650 ABS and V-Strom 650 SEA ABS Touring

I will let Greywolf add his 2 cents, but I was pretty certain all 650's were ABS since 2008.

Is it possible that in some of the countries they may have had different equipment?

I am pretty sure in Canada that ABS was an option in some of the years from 07 on. I suspect that may also be true in other countries.

Could you expand on the issues that would make the first gen 1K "very" temperamental ?

Actually looking to purchase two bikes, 650 for the wife, 1K for me.

Go to the appropriate 1000 section.........you will see what I'm talking about. :wink2: For what it's worth I have owned 2 first gen 1000's, they both needed considerable work to make them run right and perform right, my 650 has been the total opposite as are most of the 650's. Do your homework, that's all I'm saying. A 09 650 compared to an 04 1000, the 650 is a no brainer IMHO.
