so, not to ignite a big debate here, but what's right when it comes to tire PSI? The tire marking or the bike markings?

I know to deflate my tires on off road conditions, but I really wonder what I should be setting my tires for road use.

Always go with the bike placard. The psi on the sidewall is the MAX that you should not exceed, not the PROPER psi for the bikes handling.

Read the calsci website. It has some recommendations and justification.

The tire pressures on the placard for the Wee are too low IMHO. I use 38 psi for the front and about 42 for the rear tire.

Too low psi will cause excessive wear - tire will heat faster and more.
Too high psi will reduce traction - tire will heat slower and less.
When it's hot and dry, I would prefer slightly higher psi for better wear.
When cold, wet, or both, I would prefer slightly lower psi for better traction.
