Progressive springs also have“load-compensating” abilities. Their advantage over straight-rate springs is that they increase resistance as the load increases. For example, as the spring are asked to accommodate first rider alone, then the rider and passenger and finally, the rider, passenger and luggage together they are supposed to increase the effective spring rate.

How is this?

The first inch of travel is softer for smoother ride and then increases significantly more than stock.

They provide an advantage over straight rate springs and significant load changes.
