I have a 2008 DL1000 that I bought new last year and I just received the new Cee Bailey "Perfect Strom" windshield. I am having problems mounting the shield due to:

1. The mounting holes on the Cee Bailey are slightly larger than the stock shield, allowing the screw heads and washers to pull right through (metal machine screw and metal flat washer)

2. The well nuts don't seem to engage properly in the plastic cowling support since the shield is slightly thicker than the stock shield.

Has anyone else had these problems with this or other aftermarket windshields? Are the wellnuts supposed to be installed from the front of the windshield or underneath the windshield (between the shield and the bracket)? Are metal machine screws and washers the right hardware? To me the mounting setup seems poorly engineered. It seems like there should be a bushing or spacer that is supposed to go in the windsheild holes to limit the free play of the screws. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated!!

You're using the wrong hardware. The CeeBailey screen uses the stock screen hardware which are screws and plastic bushings in the screen holes. There are no metal washers used. The rubber wellnuts install directly into the screen bracket, the screen lies on top held in place with the screws/bushings. Then the trim pieces go over all of that, held by the two screws.

Mine fits perfectly with the correct hardware.

Thanks!

Thanks for your help Wingspan. I called Cee Bailey and they were very helpful in pointing out that I had the wrong hardware. They even send me digital pix of the correct stuff. I went to see my dealer and he gave me the replacement parts free (bought the bike there new last year). Everything is OK now and so far I like the new Perfect Strom shield!
