So with about 2400 miles on them I figured now is a good time for a review. These are the third brand of tire that I have put on my DL650, the other two being the stock Bridgestones, and the Metzler Tourance. All in all I can say I'm very happy with the Pirellis. I've had them mostly on pavement, a little on gravel, and more than I wanted in the rain....the pouring downpour go find some gopherwood rain. For the little bit of time I was on gravel they were good, I didn't change air pressure before taking a nice gravel road up and around a mountain and didn't feel I needed to during the ride. I felt pretty comfortable and in control the whole time and felt like I had all the grip I needed, granted I'm not an overly aggressive rider, but I was able to have all the fun I wanted and never felt like I couldn't grip enough to control the bike. I didn't take them in sand or mud, I think that would be the true test. They are definitely not comparable to a set of more dirt oriented duel sport knobbier, but in comparison to the Bridgestones or the Metzlers they are definitely comparable off road.

On road I like them better than both the stock or the Tourance tires. At first I thought it might just be the new tire effect, but at the 2400 mile mark I still feel that way. They are a nice smooth ride, grip well in turns, and the wear seems to be at a decent rate.

In the rain is where they really shine. The rain rolled in on Sunday of the Eastern rally and it was pretty bad all the way back to Atlanta. I felt like I had more grip in the rain than any of the previous sets of tires I have had. I had to do an evasive maneuver to avoid a pickup truck that didn't see me and changed lanes quickly almost running me off the road and the tires maintained grip no problem. Not once did I feel like I was slipping or losing grip.

As I said, all in all a good tire, great in the rain hopefully the wear will be such that it makes them a good choice for the price point.

The Bridgestone Trailwing and the Metzeler Tourance have been around quite a few years. The tire companies are always leap-frogging each other bringing out new and improved tire casings, tread compounds, and tread patterns. The Scorpion Trail II is a new design and should be an improvement over the older tires. Metzeler Tourance NEXT may be similar to the Trail II...both are new and they're the same company.

Just put on my second Pirelli Scorpion Trail II rear tire. The first went 11,899 miles and was about 1/64 from the wear bars. Lots of freeway running 75-80 mph with a load of camp gear. These tires are great in the rain and let you get the most out of the curves. Front tire has used 2mm of its 5mm when new.
