The windshield on my V2 works surprisingly well, but when I duck down an inch or two it's clear the windshield could have been taller. Staring at the thing for hours on end during my 5,000 mile ride home from the dealership this solution seemed obvious.



It will be painted black tomorrow and new pics posted.

This pic of the brackets mounted with flush mount stainless SHCS tells most of the story. New threaded holes are placed just slightly higher than the high holes on the stock brackets.



I took the bike for a spirited ride after installation with the wind shied in the new middle position. The higher shield resulted in clean air and no buffeting at all at 70 mph. It was a very breezy day here, but I detected no unforeseen side effects. It did what it was suppose to. The brackets will likely "disappear" when painted black.




Here are a couple more shots of my Auxiliary light set-up for the V2. The light bar and lights are well outside the theoretical max travel of the front wheel/fender and mounted to the frame at three points.

The light bar, 10 Watt Cree lights with Euro Lens, and wiring harness including relay will be $150. The light bar and wiring harness will also be available separately.

Nope, picked up the bike before the eastern gathering them toured Florida before heading back WA state.

Here is the powder coated version of the windshield brackets.





I really don't know how much demand there will be for the windshield raising bracket. I intend to use them at least until a proper touring windshield becomes available.

Let me know if there is interest.

I am wondering if the windshield raising bracket can be adapted with a crossbar to use as a gps mount? It would place the gps in a great spot. Just wondering:confused:

That is a good looking bracket. The 2014 windscreen has some interesting shapes cast into it, I especially like the near vertical lip at the top, that might really help with turbulence felt around the helmet.

Even with aftermarket screens, there will always be a need for height adjustment. I see California Scientific has some new screens for the 2014. I was wondering how the built in screen adjustment would handle the higher loads?

Good thoughts all.

More surface area and more leverage (taller) mean higher loads. Of course you only have to be stronger than the typically <1/8" plastic windshield mounting points themselves, so for this and a couple of other reasons the brackets are made of 3/16 (0.1875") 6061-T6.

I don't expect one to ever fail due to normal use and we typically replace crash damaged parts like these free of charge.

Rick, how "robust" do you think the internal Suzuki adjustment mechanism is?

Nice, looks similar to something a German Triumph after-market company makes for the Tiger Explorer, only there's have a more skeletal look about them. Also, here in Europe you can now buy OEM touring screens if anyone needs one.

It seems pretty strong and surprisingly rigid. I haven't been too concerned about the strength of the Suzuki mechanism since the Adventure touring screen is a couple of inches taller than the base model screen, and I assumed the guys who might want to raise their shields would be those with the base model screen.

The steel mechanism seems pretty robust, much more so that the plastic set-up on the Gen 1 bikes. Since those bikes could handle tall screens with only on of two pair of bolts installed (I know, it makes me cringe too), I don't expect any problems.

here is a picture showing the difference between the 2014 foot peg and control lowering plates and those for all the other stroms. The bolts securing the plates are much further back on the V2. Using the plates for the other stroms result in a mismatch of the front plate of the lowering plat and the frame. It functions, just looks odd.

The new plates follow the lines of the frame better.

Time for more V2 Projects

Larger Rack

If wanted a bolt-on larger rack for the V2, what size would you want it to be? Maybe I should make a few sizes?

Guards

I was asked if I could make some brake reservoir, brake cylinder, and exhaust valve guards. Does anything else need a similar guard?
