I have not seen published performance figures on the DL 1000 and would like to know such things as:
0 - 60mph
60 - 80mph
quarter mile time and top speed
etc

Previously I owned a '97 Bandit 1200 and wonder how the DL 1000 compares.

Does anyone have these figures?

According to Motor Cyclist Mag. hard numbers to 05 dl 1000 specs.
rear wheel hp 91.3
torque 65.2 pound feet
1/4 mile 11.94 @ 109.9 mph
60 to 80 in 6th gear 4.48 sec.

01 1200 Katana
101.8 hp
70 # ft.
1/4 mile [email protected] 121.9mph
60 to 80 3.38 sec.

I seem to remember an artical in Cycle World or Motor Cyclists stating the 0 to 60 was 3.4 sec.

Cycle World:

DL1000:
0-60 in 3.4 seconds
1/4 mile in 11.92 seconds
HP=91 RW
5 pounds per 1HP (CA model)

DL650
0-60 in 3.98 seconds
1/4 mile in 12.52 seconds
HP=66 RW
6.3 pounds per 1HP (CA model)

Explains why I have never felt underpowered aboard the 650, and in most riding situations it just doesn't feel significantly slower than its big brother.

Interesting figures...

So the 1K has 27% more HP then the 650, but weights only 9% more then the 650 (458lbs vs. 418lbs).

So this means the gearing on the 1000 is why the performance figures aren't much higher. With the same gearing as the 650, the 1000 would no doubt have much better acceleration figures. I've tried to find the internal gearing specs before but couldn't find them. I've seen 'em before but can't remember where. Then the sprockets are different also.

Explains why the 43T rear or 45T rear or 16T front sprocket changes are so popular on the 1000.

Got my 43T sitting at home, waiting for my loving care and installation!! 8)

Yeah I'm thinking about trying a 16T front. But not sure if you need special tools to change it.

I understand the the sprocket change for the rear going up a couple teeth and getting up and out quicker. I am assuming that in changing the front for a smaller sprocket will do the same :?: What sprockets come stock on the BIG V :?:

According to another post from I think it was Heavy :?: , The big VEE runs a 17 tooth up front and I know that mine runs a 41 in the rear. I haven't checked the front.

I had an 03 1200s.....and I DON"T miss it one bit! :wink: I can ride my Strom much faster and smoother than I EVER could on that Bandit! As well as, being MUCH longer in the saddle.


You should hear my dual Leo Vince exhausts...bike sounds nasty!

Did you have to get a yosh box retune with the new cans or is the map adjustment still good?

I was Yosh boxed before I got them. All that I had to do was check and "slightly" re-adjust my TB's. The Leos and the Two Brothers, are race cans...doubt that the bike would like them in stock FI mode. There is no illusion, that my bike now revs quicker and pulls harder from mid to high rev ranges. I did lose a bit down low...but who stays there? :lol: I get a ton of sportbike guys that say "DAMN", when they hear my bike. There is nothing quite like the sound of a "big bore" sport engine twin, under a rev load. Not with the Briggs and Stratton cans though! :wink:
