Has anyone seen a passenger back rest for 650XT? I've looked and couldn't find anything other than the one's that attach to the top box but I'm just not a fan of the looks. Currently have a HD Road King which I love but toying around with downsizing. If I could find a backrest for my wife along with a rack I could use the tail bag I already have. Thoughts?

fwiw, i held off on a top case "for the looks" as well. I broke down and bought one and its been the best thing ive ever had on a bike. The wife loves the backrest/case. I went givi monokey with aluminum plate which has the added supports, very sturdy.

Thanks Rock - do you have the 650 or 1000? If 650, how does it support you both etc. Do you have a picture of your top case and the size? Facing a real battle as our friends have a Harley as well and you just can't beat them for touring and she doesn't want to go 'backwards' in size/comfort. I upgraded from a Triumph Bonneville for that very reason.

I have a 1000 and can't personally speak to how a 650 would handle, but from what i gather on here if you plan on touring 2 up, go 1000. It handles my wife and I great, plenty of power. I thought i also read brakes and suspension were better, again better for 2-up.

Im a little confused that you have an HD RK, but wife doesnt want to downsize and your looking at a Wee, or even a Vee. You're not going to match the comfort for the passenger, its like sitting on a couch vs a table chair. That might be extreme, but you get the idea.

I attached a picture of the Givi V47, perfect size for me. Could hold two full face helmets for reference. We were out his past weekend and decided to do some light grocery shopping. Two of us, case full of groceries, all good.

Your confusion is valid - was just thinking about the low price of a '19 650-XT (~$7700) and what I could put in the bank if I sold my RK which has a pretty high retail and is in demand where I live. I know, it's not really about the money, it's just everything I've read makes the Wee look like such a fun bike to ride. Will likely stay with the HD. Your bike looks great and the top case actually looks pretty good. Maybe I start thinking the Vee??!!

I have both; HD Ultra and Strom 650.
They are two different types of bikes. I’m not sure you can compare them.
Can not beat the comfort of the HD for casual riding and touring. Also comfort for the passenger.
The Strom is versatile fun to ride your feet are under you rather then out in front.

Personally my riding style is totally different between the bikes.
HD when I’m feeling mello, or going for distance 650/700 miles in a day.
650 is for more spirited riding and when spending the day in the surrounding mountain roads.

When I spend the day on mountain roads with the HD it’s fun but can be tiring, the 650 fun but not tiring.

You can solve the problem the way I did Once the HD was paid off the 650 joined the garage, own both.

Thanks guys. Just test drove the 2019 Wee adventure. Loved everything about it. Is the Givi47 comfortable on your wife's back? I'd likely get the little pad they sell as long as it doesn't come up too high.

I like the dual bike plan but that would not fly with the Mrs!

I loved my RK and someday will have another. If I was only riding pavement I would have kept it. My reason for buying a DL is getting off pavement while still retaining good highway manners.

If you do not like the rounded look of some top boxes( I dont) then consider a Pelican box. Low profile, cheap waterproof and tough as nails. Pads cam be added(self stick keyboard wrist pad), but my wife does not need one....leaning against the box is fine.

Thanks Motor. Agree on the RK. Wife still loves it. It was just me on the test ride but the bike was overall just more fun and ran at 80 just fine. One of the dlr techs had the Givi 47 on his bike and it actually looked pretty good in person. The silver on the V47 accentuated the silver on the side bags. Would Pelican require any special mount/hardware etc? Great idea on the wrist dad btw..

Well, she hasn't complained and is happy as is. I didnt get the pad because some have complained that it sticks out to far, making the passenger lean forward. Im sure you could fashion something similar and thinner if it was an issue.

No, i just used 4 SS bolts w/ Nylock nuts to the rear rack since I never take mine off. If you have a quick release plate then it would bolt to that. Decide where you want it, mark it then drill 4 holes in the bottom of the Pelican. I put a half inch layer of foam on the bottom to keep the bolt heads from rubbing on anything in the box.

The military uses a lot of Pelicans, so the larger ones pop up on eBay used + or - $30 ish.
