I'm staying at MIT for three nights this month but I've discovered that MIT is not very motorcycle-friendly. They will "make an exception" and let me park there, but I have to buy a 6 month pass ($92).

Should I just bite the bullet and pay the $92 for the three nights of parking, or does anyone know of another lot where I can park my bike that is safe and within walking distance or reasonable cab fare of MIT?

Not an easy request, someone living close with private parking would be your best choice if available. I'm about 15 miles away, not exactly convenient.

The MIT price is not really out of line with Boston parking prices. Sadly.

One of the MANY reasons that I'm always thankful I don't live IN the city! Driving in and out and parking (for my job) is inconvenient enough. I have to fork out a hundred bucks every year for a Cambridge permit that allows me to park in "residential permit parking areas" from 8AM-8PM Mon-Fri. It's still a PITA.

Anyway, the Green Street Parking garage isn't too far from MIT and if you look at the web site it implies that you can park there overnight. I should think that they'd let you park your bike near the garage attendants kiosk but it's STILL a public parking garage. As long as your bike is secured and covered, should be safe:

There might be/probably are parking garages closer to the MIT campus. I don't pay much attention to those kinds of things because I only work there, don't live there.

There are always bikes parked outside the Marriott Parking garage across from MIT. I do not know if the bikes are left overnight.

Wow, they've made their stance much clearer than it used to be. As others said, $92 is a pretty good deal. The nearest garages charge $20-30/day, and I'm not sure about their overnight rate/policy.

There's supposedly an informal motorcycle club on campus. While I hear that its mailing list is very low-traffic, it might be worth pinging them for native opinions: Easyrider

Thanks!

Thanks everyone. It's probably best that I just park at MIT.

Why can't other cities be as forward thinking as Toronto where bikes can park for free? :)
