Park Light

When I turn my 2014 DL1000 Vstrom's handlebars all the way to the left and then turn my ignition key all the way (anti clockwise) to "P", the low beam light as well as all the lights on the instrument cluster comes on. In this position ("P"), I can remove the key and these lights stay on. That small little bulb within the headlight (which I thought is the park light) does not come on and neither does any light at the back of the bike. In this position ("P"), even with the key removed, if I press the start button, the starter runs but the bike does not start.
When I normally start the bike, the headlights come on as they should. From low beam I can switch to high beam, and everything works just fine. That small little park light within the headlight also comes and stays on during normal riding. The back light and brake light work just fine.
I have never tabbed into or fiddled with any wires.
I have unplugged, leaned (with Electrical Contact Spray) and reconnect all electrical wire connectors I could get to. Problem is still there.
Has anybody got any advice please?

Did this just start happening or, like me, you've finally getting around to sorting this out after buying the bike? A previous owner might have altered some connector(s) by changing some pins for some unknown purpose. I think you will need a wiring diagram (and a magnifying glass if your eyes are like mine) and trace the wires from the ignition switch in the P position.
Assuming that the wiring is basically the same as my 2017 DL 650, here is the routing from the ignition switch to the parking light & tail light.
STARTING FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH:
  • RED TO FIRST CONNECTOR (hereinafter "1C,2C etc.) RED TO BLACK/RED
  • TO STARTER RELAY

  • BROWN TO 1C BROWN 2C TO BROWN PARK LIGHT AND BROWN TAIL/BRAKE LIGHT
    Font Sharing Parallel Circle Diagram
Hope this helps.

Thank you!
I bought the bike new (I am the first owner.)
This is good information to have.
See whether the wiring diagram, attached in reply #6 of What are these wire connectors?, applies to your model.
Thank you, Gert.
Lekker man!!!
I'll review.
