Know it sounds a bit girly but im thinking of painting the exhaust cap.
After buying the heat resistant paint i noticet that the three bolts holding the cap in place is welded on. Is there any reason for this? Like you should not thouch this part of the bike stuff i dont know?

If i want to remove the cap, any tips to get it off? I thinking of trying to use my Dremel tool to get rid of the weldings?

Is there a way to modify the exhaust on the original pipe to increase the preformance of the bike? Seen there are a bounch of YouTube videos on this topic, but is it done for performance increase of just the sound output?

Thx

You can dremel them off, although you don't have to. The welding is there to keep the screws from coming off due to vibration. It is best if you reweld them afterwards.

You could just block the exhaust with something and do all the work on the bike. A bit more trouble to sand-paint, a bit les trouble welding. Also, you can't weld on a painted surface...

If you're willing to spend $800 for an aftermarket exhaust and another $500 for a Power Commander or similar fuel controller, you can get another 3 - 5 hp out of the engine at wide open throttle. But you'll lose low-end torque and rideability.

It will sound GREAT!

The YouTube Exhaust tip mods one sees, usually only result in more decibels - it doesn't actually sound better, just more like a louder garbage disposal grinder, instead of the quiet blender of the stock setup.

Instead of cutting off the welded bolts on the cap, I'd just use some masking tape, to protect the rest of the pipe/bike from paint, and use a high temperature spray paint to color the cap. Check out the link - there's many colors to choose from - high temperature, flameproof, wrinkle finish, metal finish, etc....

VHT FlameProof™ Coating will withstand temperatures up to 2000°F (1093°C) and is ideal for use on headers, exhaust systems, or wherever an extreme temperature coating is needed.

looks good!

I left the cap on the bike and covered the bolts with some candlewax. The result was kinda cool. Adding a pic.
looks pretty awesome! i never thought about painting it...i might do the same!!

as a side note, crayons (also wax like you used) work well for keeping paint off, but what i like to use even more so is grease (it's easier to apply and remove)...

I painted mine flat black to match the tool tube on the left side. Looks like a 1000 now
Just did the same thing. The result was *thumbs up*

Actually the color on the exhaust cap and the tool tubes is almost the same but the flash on this picture make them look different.

Very nice!
I might be doing the same as you - nice touch with keeping the bolts in silver. Candle wax..cool.

A few questions:
1. Did you use some sand paper on the original silver color, before applying the paint?
2. Did you simple put masking tape around the exhaust and sprayed?
3. Could you please specify what paint you've used?
I have bought some high temp spray paint from HomeDepot (typically used for painting BBQs) but it is not as deep black as the one you used. Mine is more like very dark gray.

Ohhh! I will resist the temptation to say "envy".

I'm a better person than to kick you while you're down...

Though it's tempting.

Pass the bong please.

I did use som fine sand paper.
Then i cleaned it with methylated spirit.
i covered the bolts with wax and masking tape.

I used a cheap all Black (not blank) paint who should hold 650 degrees. Two weeks now and the paint looks good still. The paint was a Norwegian fabricate called "Biltema"

Then i took an old pizzabox and cut a hole in it. Stuffed some cloth in the exhaust and sprayed it down :)

Mmmmm.... pizza!! :)

I did use a q-tip and som melted wax. But i had some problems with wax rests melting when i fired up the bike and got some heat on it. I found out after applying the paint that the paint was the kind that didnt harden before it got heated. So some of the waxrests meldet with the paint. I had to start over and on the second run i only used the tape.

So if i should do it again id just skip the wax part and only du the tape.
