Hello troopers ,
I picked up my 2008 DL 1000 from the local mechanic after completing major Overhaul , bike is in break in period and really rides like a champ.
I put around 150 miles on new engine , with the new brakes and shocks and tires and every thing electrical working , this bikes needs nothing , but just face-lifting.
The color on fairings and odo meter fainting due to exposure to sun.
other vise very little scratches to fairing , the Suzuki sticker from the 2 sided are still there and clean but I already bought the German designed from cypress decals for front side and back cover sides.
I want to do some thing for exterior color ,
I have watched numbers of videos on how to paint your car or motorcycle with paint can spray . I think I have 2 options as following;
1- sand the old paint , use primer , then paint then clear coat ( of course with sandpapering in between) ,
2- not wanting to sand or primer it but just buffing and polish and then spray the clear coat.
should I place the new stickers after all clear coating or place them and then use the clear coating.
my bike is silver and can find the paint from Colorite with Color code YMD.
or just cleaning the oxidation , and then placing clear coat will take care of it.
And what is your :nerd: recommendation for odometer and switches area rejuvenation?:smile2::nerd:

I've done the rattle can thing on a couple bikes and had decent, far from perfect results. A friend painted my Honda 500?4 with proper paint and a gun and knew what he was doing. No clear coat and it was a beautiful shiny black finish. The I hit diesel fuel on an off ramp, took a spill, and kinda spoiled the nice new paint.
So I like the imperfect rattle can that can be easily touched up.
Color-rite is supposed to be the real deal paint wise but more pricey that Krylon, fur sure!

So I bought new stickers and took it to a car painter, asking him to put clear over the repair, repaint, and new stickers. When he did so the new stickers distorted, somehow absorbing the clear and wrinkling the stickers. Perhaps OEM paint jobs do not include a clear coat. Or he used the wrong type of clear coat.

Have you seen Plastidip paint ?

Spray it on, if your not happy peel it off.

I have painted a few bikes with it, with some practice you can get a good result.

The beak and tank on my V2 are painted with it, I use it to protect the paint.

After a while my knees will rub through on the tank so I will just over coat it.

I have stickers to put in that place I just have not gotten around to putting them on.

My 09 was a disaster, cosmetically, when I bought it. Mechanically sound. So, I am restoring an 09 little by little. I am thinking of vinyl wrap for the tank and upper fairing covers, replacing the front cowl. (last guy was NOT much of a protector.) Paint will be my last option--if required.

I had good luck painting a Concours with rattle can. I used a flat clear coat and it looked great afterwards. But you have to be into the flat paint.

I was asking a painter about touching up a couple spots on my wee tank and he said there is no clear coat on my tank.

About the time you think they can't get any cheaper they prove you wrong.

Krlon Fusion paint. De-grease, rough upthe plastics and metal with a 3m pad. De-grease again, then wipe down with a ammonia based cleaner. The ammonia helps the Fusion bond to the surface. Touch up take a few min.

Mine has held up well for almost 30k miles. You can go over it all with Krylon clear coat, but i used a flat paint so no need. The stuff is about $4 a can at wallyworld. Most auto parts stores carry the camouflage flat colors.

I have done the Plasti Dip and so far? I love it . I will try to post pre and post photos

Sometime it is the sticker material or the finish on the sticker that is not compatible with the composition of a particular clear coat. Given the chance I snip off some trim of a sticker and stick it on a tool box or something. Then use the clear coat on the sample. It might give you an ugly tool box but it will tell you up front if it will break your heart.
