Just trailering the bike home and I already see a small mark on that back rack from the tiedown strap. (I even used cardboard spacers) Thinking of picking up a can of clear satin laquer, the one advertised as diamond tough, and throwing on two or three coats.

Cardboard is quite abrasive. Imagine rubbing twigs on the shiny parts of your bike.

But I suggest you have better things to do than fret about a scuff or two. Based on my insufficient experience in riding the interior and the coast of British Columbia, you might better use your time to collect more scuffs.

Ride the Sea-to-Sky up past Whistler, and take care on the one-lane bridges. When I went that way a few years ago, northbound traffic (me) always yielded to southbound traffic, and there were always curves just north of the trestles, so the bridges were a bit scary for me.

Go west from Victoria, and realize near Sooke that you are actually rounding a corner of the country, and everybody in Canada is to your right. Then ride across the island to Duncan. You will totally forget about scuffs.

Ride today. Buff and polish in the late fall, and enjoy remembering "That mark was from a branch near 100-Mile House ... idiot near Jasper dropped his lighter on my fairing and left that chip ... etc."

And me? Next week I leave Florida for Toronto and points north. The bike will
get some cleaning before I go, but none more until I complete the voyage.

Having lived for many years in Whistler and Victoria, I know all those places quite well. And, I know. You can't keep the durn thing pretty forever.:green_lol:

same here to big scratches and a few minor ones.
it comes off to easily (cheap feel) suzuki screwed this part up

Mine is pretty scuffed up also... what can you expect after 12yrs...lol...it is mostly hidden by the top case... but next winter I foresee a quick bead blast and nice coat of silver "hammer-tone" paint... the stuff is bullet proof once cured..... has a nice beaten metal look. :thumbup:

The new one has a plastic rack. Supere Tenere as well.

I'm always hard to convince. Taking it off in the cool weather had it feeling and weighing like alum. A quick scratch to the bottom proved it plastic. So, thru the night it has gained four coats of satin clear Tremclad topcoat. After a couple of days of hardening we'll see if it helps. I can already see it might look a lot better in a black anyway. I'd do that thru a shop. Powercoat.
But I see it is a common scratch point with most bikes these days. My ex Stelvio had the same type of silver grab handles and they were rubbed off and marked to shit from my camping gear tie downs.
