I just puchased some Oxford Hot Hands. These are the over grips that wrap over your existing grips. The instructions suggest wiring directly to the battery. Unlike the other Oxford heated grips these don't have the safety protection that turns them off automatically if the voltage drops below a certain level, if you forget to turn them off when you turn the bike off.

My question is; can I simply wire the positive lead into the brown wire running on the right side of the grab rail (I believe this is for the rear brake light) and the negative to the battery, this way the grips will be on a switch circuit. I know others have ordered a lead to hook up to the horn circuit - I don't want to go to that much trouble.

I assume that if I can do this I wouldn't need to use a relay as they only draw 3 amps?

Thanks

Use a relay, a fuse and run a hot wire from the battery or an aux fuse block.

Better safe...
