I am looking at buying some Oxford heated grips for my DL-1000 and have a few questions that I couldn't find answers too when using the search function.

1. When these are installed can I still have my bar ends and hand guards attached?

2. When the bike is shut off, will this turn the power off to the heated grips? I know that on occassion I will forget to turn the grips off.

3. Are the Oxford grips as good as the Suzuki grips? The Oxford grips are about one thid the price here in Ontario.

Yes you can. Just make sure to by the version with "open" ends.

2. When the bike is shut off, will this turn the power off to the heated grips? I know that on occassion I will forget to turn the grips off.

If you wire them up correctly, yes they will. This means either using the OEM heated grip connector (tucked WAY up under the radiator) or using a relay when wiring to the battery. (Option 2 is better.) The Oxford controller is designed to automatically shut off if voltage drops below 11.5 volts, but this is supposed to be a safety feature, not the normal way to shut them off. I wouldn't trust it as my sole safety to avoid a dead battery.

3. Are the Oxford grips as good as the Suzuki grips? The Oxford grips are about one thid the price here in Ontario.

The Oxford grips are orders of magnitude BETTER than the Suzuki POS, er... I mean, OEM grips. They will perform better and last longer than the 'Zuke grips for much less money.

Perfect - Thanks for the response, esp. to number 3 Suzuki grips are about $250 Cdn and the Oxford grips are only $99.

The Heaterz grips are great. A little fatter than the stock grip. Just right for me. When I installed mine, the bike was new and I wanted to ride it and not disassemble it, so I'm wired direct. Haven't run the battery down yet. Someday when I'm "in there" I'll wire into the plug: the best way would be to have the matching half connector so it would plug in just like the Zuki grips. On mine the throttle tube had a bunch of ridges that matched up to grip. I ground those down. It might be easier to get a new one with no ridges. If you haven't taken off the bar end weights, search the site for that. There are some surprises in there: at least there were for me.

All you need to do is get the Suzuki horn lead from your dealer. It's the same plug. Personally, I prefer to have the grips wired directly to the battery with a relay to do the switching when I turn off the bike. I just don't trust the OEM wiring to carry the load. I've also heard of some having problems with the Heaterz' auto shut off feature when using the OEM grip connector. Apparently, it can cause a large enough voltage drop to make the Heaterz controller think your voltage is too low and it turns off the grips.

Check Ebay as well. I got my Oxfords with digital control there last fall for 50 bucks Canadian plus shipping.

I got a horn lead from dealer and hooked them up to the OEM connector behind the rad.

As was mentioned by Hammer above, I did have a couple ocassions where the grips shut down. Wasn't enough of a concern for a wiring change though.

Someone help me: My throttle side Oxford will not turn on

Arrrrgh. I just installed my new Oxfords and the throttle side grip is not heating. It was for a moment and than stopped. Anyone have any ideas?
